Physical Training Team
Thank you for visiting jeffersonnjrotc.com

Welcome everyone to the 2007-2008 school year and welcome to our PT Team page. If you haven't already, please consider joining our team. We could certainly use more members and allot of spirit.

PT TEAM MISSION:

To develop understanding and appreciation of health principles and the importance of physical training in maintaining health.

PT TEAM GOAL:

To recruit many new members and develop a strong and competitive team. To study and learn about fitness and to exceed excellence in team work.

One key element in achieving excellence is maintaining a good health regimen. The two most important parts of a good health regimen are nutrition and a strong fitness routine. There is no fast track to good fitness. Steady is the way. Everyone leads a busy life and extra time is not easy to come by. Even if you don't have allot of time to do a dedicated fitness routine, or don't have access to fancy equipment and do not plan to be an athlete or run marathons, it is still very important to set some time aside to stay fit. Something is better than nothing. So if all the time you can put aside is fifteen minutes per day or even per week, do it. If you are not in the habit of doing a routine work out, that is ok. It is never too late to start. Good fitness means a reduction of stress and a healthier and happier mind and body. Even a conservative fitness regimen can lead to better grades through better memory and concentration.

There are many sources of information on fitness and health. No matter what your goals, or how much time you have there is a plan out there for you. Weather it be in a book, video, or even online you can find a plan that will work. Before starting any dietary or fitness program it is a good idea to consult your doctor and see what he or she might suggest especially if you are going for the gold. You will find links on this page to help give you some ideas and information as well as some inspiration. If you have any links you would like to see on this page please email me.

The first thing in fitness like with just about everything in life, you should first set your goals then carefully develop a plan. It is always a good idea to seek help from a professional or from someone that has been successful in achieving results similar to what you desire. You should develop two sets of goals, short term and long term. Your plans should start out reasonable and increase over time. A fitness plan should be for life and must be one in which you can live with. So looking at fitness as a regular part of life, you will see no reason to rush things you will not be able to attain your long term goals if you become injured along the way and are unable to perform your work outs. You don't want to get burned out or get carried away to the point that you will not be able to continue. Easy does it. Instead of not working out at all or rushing into it and becoming injured or find out you are spending more time than you can afford and quit all together, look at it this way. If I spend even five minutes a day working out instead of none, over a long long period those five minutes will total hours and hours of safe quality work out. You can always increase and adapt. Just like anything we want results now. Don't be in a hurry and don't get discouraged. With even a small amount of time and the simplest routine your results will come. If you continue, even with the simplest work out in time you will become very fit, more content that you are doing something good for yourself, feel better, gain confidence, and be likely to want to increase and will have experience and confidence in the fact that a little has done allot of good. You will know that you don't have to increase much more to reap even better results and you will have one more good habit in your life.

Fitness is a good habit to have and is also a good habit to share with others. Exercise is a good opportunity to have good quality time alone and may be a good time to spend quality time with friends and loved ones. You may be able to inspire mom and dad or hand down your good habits to your little brother or sister. Inspiring others is another good habit.

There is one very important part of health and fitness that many people pay little attention to. Something that alone can help keep you more healthy and should be a big part in you routine and can be done anytime anywhere. Breathing! Breathing is a key element to staying alive and it only makes sense that if done properly you will achieve more quality health. Most people do not breath to the full compasity of their lungs on a regular basis or during exercise. You can benefit greatly by practicing deep breathing which should be done all the time and there are separate breathing exercises that will increase blood flow and lung compasity. More oxygen in your blood, more blood to the brain and other parts of the body, more oxygen to the brain, better memory, better concentration, better grades, more contentment = better health. Better health, more contentment, better attitude, you get the point. Before long just by practicing better breathing habits you are doing the best most basic part of your work out without breaking a sweat. There is much information in books and online about the benefits of better breathing habits. During a workout breathing properly is also very important. For one, you reap more benefit out of your efforts. Two, you will not be doing damage by locking down your diaphram.

Another great part of health and fitness is routine meditation. Just a few minutes a day or a few minutes a few or several times a day can greatly reduce stress. I don't have to tell you about the threats to your health caused by stress. Stress can not be avoided completely in life but meditation is a great way of reliving stress especially before a workout or test or even a speech or interview, and allow you to perform better. Avoiding excess stress is another great way to maintain health. Quality of health is everything. Heath is the main reason for staying fit and the more you can do aside from exercising the more you will get out of your workouts. Again there is much information from experts on all these subjects that are very accessible to you. Just incase some readers have no idea what meditation is or how to meditate, I will explain a very basic form of it. Remember some is better than none and sometimes simple is better. A simple way to meditate is to sit in a quiet room with little or no light for as long as you have time for with your eyes closed and try to clear your mind thinking about nothing. This may not be easy at first. It seems like a simple task and it is but you may be surprised that it will take some practice at first and you might later realize that some people do this all day along. HI HI. Joking aside this is a very important and simple exercise that you will greatly benefit from. You may think it is silly but once you try it and see that it is not simple at first and maybe down right hard for some people. This should get you thinking about how hard your mind is grinding all the time and almost refuses to stop even when trying hard. It is important to make it stop and unwind. Try it and you will see the benefits. Like anything start simple and read up on it. Later you can start doing deep breathing during your sessions and even increase to doing light stretches and exercises as well. Some people sit Indian style and even hold their arms out to the sides parallel with the floor or ground. As you see and feel the benefits you may realize that slow quiet exercise sessions are not a bad idea, not even to the point of blanking your (meditation) mind but just quiet exercise.

If reading this, you think this is silly and you like to rock and roll your way to fitness, I agree that is a real good way to keep motivation during high passed or aerobic style exercise, and is my favorite. I know I said any way you do it just do it and something is better than nothing, but health is the most important aspect of life and fitness greatly increases your health and by doing so greatly increases the quality of your life so the more quality routine you adopt the better the results.

The more diverse your routine is the more benefit you will reap. By adding more aspects to your work out and some speed, moderation, and I know this will sound funny but relaxing exercise the more quality results you will receive. I also stressed in the beginning about routine, plans, goals, steady, and it all seems so robotic and strict. Don't be afraid to change things up. Those looking to tone and build muscle, not just keep you heart rate up can benefit greatly from confusing your muscles and body by changing your routine routinely. Your body and muscle groups will get used to a routine and ah ha all of a sudden you change the sequence and or the days at which you do your certain exercises and the muscles are confused and have to work in a different way all of a sudden.

A workout is designed with your goals in mind. One person may want to build muscle while one may want to simply condition or you may want to do both, but what you want to archive should be decided and a plan developed carefully and after some research. One thing to keep in mind is muscle built is muscle that must be maintained or it will be muscle breaking back down. Another point is that it is not necessary to build allot of muscle to be fit or strong. If you want to become fast, allot of excess muscle will slow you down. Hardened and toned muscles may be what you desire. So research and develop a plan. A fitness routine can be simple or be made very complex. It can be a fun simple no brainer or it can become a science. Back to the beginning. No matter what just do it. Have fun. Enjoy health and life and good luck. Oh and don't tell the teacher I said you should meditate in class to get better grades.

Moderate and steady are always safe but there are always some people out there who's wiring is just a wee bit singed and want a little danger and challenge in their life. Fitness becomes their career, well here's a good plan for you. Click this link and lets get it on. Naval Special WarfareTraining Preparatory Guide
